 My elder sister, Isabel, is good at sports. She's a wonderful soccer  . I wanted to play on Isabel's team. So I practiced hard with my dad. He taught me  to play the ball. We didn't tell Isabel because we wanted to surprise her. We kept  a secret. 

 One day Isabel came home from soccer practice. She was  about the next day's game. "Our best player can't come, " Isabel told Dad. 

I knew this was my big chance! The next day, I went to the practice  the game. "Can I join you?" I asked the teacher. She looked a little surprised  she handed me a red shirt, "Practice during the warm-up. You' ll play on the red  , and Isabel is on the blue team. "

 The warm-up started. I took the ball down the field. Isabel tried to  me. I ran past her with the ball. I took the ball back very fast. I scored a goal!"Wow! It's a big surprise, " said Isabel. Soon the game started. Our team pulled together, and we  the game!

 After the game, Isabel looked excited. "We have another player in the family! Now we can play  . " Chances are given to everyone who is prepared. 

I am Ashraf from Cairo, Egypt. Last summer, my cousin Sami came to Cairo for the first time. He is 28 and he lives in London. He is an architect(建筑师) and he was visiting Cairo for his job. 

 On the morning of his last day here, we went to Khan el-Khalili, It is a big market in the centre of Cairo. Hundreds of people come to the market every day. It is quieter in the morning than in the afternoon when lots of tourists visit it. 

 My dad is a taxi driver. He gave us a ride to the market. On the way, we saw many buildings. Sami liked them a lot. He said, "I like the buildings in London, but Cairo's buildings are more interesting. And the people here are friendly, too. But the streets are busier and noisier than those in London!"

 The things in the market are not too expensive. Sami bought a dress for his daughter and a toy violin for his son. We had lunch at a coffee house and Sami admired the food. He said it was both beautiful and tasty. While we were eating, we enjoyed some wonderful Egyptian music. A band was playing the violin and the drums. We also took a lot of photos. 

 Finally, it was time for Sami to go home. "Thank you for showing me around this beautiful city, " Sami said. "One day, I want to show you around my city!"

I love chocolate. So you can1 how excited I was when I discovered that a chocolate festival was coming to Bastia, my new home town in Corsica! It is one of the most popular2 in Corsica. Every year more than 50, 000 chocolate lovers come to it. 

 The chocolate festival started on 21st October and lasted for three days! I 3 a ticket for the festival online. For just€2. 50, I went into the 4 festival tent. 

 Inside the huge tent, I found there were over 125 different stalls(摊位). It was hard to know where to begin!5 , I decided to enjoy the most interesting part of the festival. It was a huge Arc de Triomphe(凯旋门) made out of 6 ! It was almost four metres high with over 900 kilos of chocolate. It took the chocolater Bruno Rouly almost 1, 500 hours to7 it. To my surprise, although it was very hot outside, the Arc de Triomphe showed no8 of melting(融化). 

 After taking a few photos in front of the Arc de Triomphe, I began to 9 my favourite chocolate. The chocolate came in many 10 shapes, sizes and tastes; I saw chocolate planes, shoes, animals. . . The one in the shape of a pencil caught my eyes. It was my favourite!

 My home town is Moonlight Town. It is close to Sunshine Town. There is1 river in front of my house. In the past, there were many factories by the river. They often put the waste into the river. 2 the clean water became very dirty. And people cut down too many trees 3 more space for tall buildings. Many animals lost4 living areas. Also, people in other places could only walk to my home town because the traffic was not easy. 

 But now, great changes5 because the government has paid attention to the problems and done something to improve the situation. First, factories no longer put the waste into the river. The water is clean. People can sit 6 the river to watch many kinds of fish swim in it again. Second, the government turns a factory into a beautiful park so people 7 relax in it. Third, thousands of trees8 on the mountain. They are becoming homes to many wild animals. Last, it's fast and easy for people to visit my home town by car or bus. 9 great changes!

I believe my home town will be 10 in the future than now. I'm looking forward to it.

 Julie: Well, she invited me to see a movie together yesterday, but I was almost an hour late.

The experience helped me grow up

 In a middle school, two friends, Mia and Lucy, have always supported each other a year ago. They reminded one another to feel free (share) their ideas in class. At the(begin) of the year, Mia struggled with her math  often felt awake at night, worrying about her grades. So Lucy came to lend her hands. They spent many evenings studying together, sharing notes, and discussing difficult questions.  Lucy's encouragement, Mia has gained confidence and improved her skills in math.

 Now, as the school year ends, Mia has (make) great progress in her studies. She has become a more confident student, and both friends are (excite) about their future together.

I still remember that I went to the beach with my family last summer holiday. We put all our toys and   tools we might use into the car. Then we left for the beach. It was boring to do nothing in the car, so we started to sing songs all the way.

 After a couple of hours, we stopped to have lunch. I ate pizza, potatoes and chicken. They were delicious! Finally, we arrived in Pensacola. My uncle Luis was waiting for us. We all stayed in the same seaside hotel. It was great to have a view of the sea through the hotel windows. Of course we were very tired from our traveling so we rested all day.

 The next day, I was ready to play on the beach. However, I forgot something very important. So I was sunburned at the end of that day. I couldn't move. I lay on the bed and watched television. I felt unhappy even if it was my favorite cartoon. I could hear my brother swimming in the sea outside. I really wanted to join him. Next time I go there, I will be careful and I'm sure I' ll enjoy my holiday on the beach then.

Note-taking is a skill that can help you do well in all your schoolwork. It can make you confident when you are studying. 

★Write down key facts. If your teacher writes notes on the blackboard, that's great. You can copy them or write down the most important facts of all in class.  For example, some teachers may focus on (关注) lots of dates and facts in class, but they only write the important ones on the blackboard. Other teachers may not write anything down, but they may say something important again and again.

★Ask.  If your teacher speaks too fast and you can't follow what he is saying, you can ask him after class.

★Compare. Comparing your notes with your classmates' can be good for your learning. 
    ★Organize. Note-táking also needs organization. Keep notes for each subject in one notebook, so that you can find everything easily when a test comes.

★ If you decide to recopy your notes every evening, you' ll surely have less time to watchTV. But you' ll save time in the coming test.
 

 Shakespeare(莎士比亚) and Company, the name of an independent bookstore, may be the most famous bookstore in the world. It is in Paris. The bookstore is not very big, but lots of people are always waiting to get into it on weekends and during the busy summer months.

 In 1951, a new English-language bookstore named"Le Mistral" was opened in Paris. It quickly became the center of culture in Paris. In'1964. on the 400th anniversary(周年纪念) of Shakespeare's birth, the owner of the bookstore gave it a new name" Shakespeare and Company". He said the name of the bookstore was"a novel in three words". Many famous people have been there. Shakespeare and Company is not only an exciting bookstore, but it also provides a place for English-speaking travelers to hold festivals of writing, reading, and art. What's more, besides getting reading materials, writers can help out in the bookstore in exchange for staying there. for free. It can offer living places and food to five or six writers at a time. The writers may stay as long as they want to. The owner is happy to provide writers with places to write. He often says, "I do this because when I was traveling around the world, many people gave me help. Now I want to help other people. "

 The bookstore holds many meaningful events, such as reading, discussions and story hours. All of these events are free. So if you are in the city, be sure to check the schedule of the events ahead of time. You won't be disappointed if you can join in them.

 Many students have already had clear ideas about what jobs they would like to have in the future. We believe boys' choices are different from girls'. To find out how different their choices are, we made a survey in Green High School. The following diagram shows the results of the survey.

 On 28 of March Richard Byrd stood outside the small house. He shook hands with the men who were leaving. They were heading back to the main camp on the coast of Antarctica(南极洲). However, Byrd would1 to work at the base camp.
