In Kunming, there is a special thing every year. Since 1985, many seagulls(海鸥)have been visiting Kunming. These birds go a long way from the cold Siberia(西伯利亚)to find a warm place to stay in winter.
It is hard for these seagulls to come to Kunming. They migrate(迁徙)from far-away cold Siberia to our hometown. They fly over mountains and rivers. They fly about 80 kilometers to the south every day, facing bad weather and many dangers along the way. It is about 6,000 kilometers to get to Kunming from Siberia.
Seagulls like to be with their friends. They live in large groups for safety. When one seagull sees danger, it will make loud noise to tell others in the group. This helps them stay away from danger.
A few years ago, scientists studied these seagulls. They put small GPS on some birds to learn more about where they go. They found out that the seagulls visited other places like Lake Erhai in Dali or even Myanmar(缅甸)before deciding that Kunming is the best place. The seagulls usually arrive in Kunming in October and stay here until March.
So, why do seagulls like Kunming so much? Winter in Kunming is not too cold, with a nice temperature of about 10℃, which is friendly to seagulls. They also find a lot of food in Dianchi Lake. And the people of Kunming often give food to the seagulls in their free time. This makes Kunming not only a good living place for seagulls but also a place where they get love from Kunming people.

Family rules help children learn what is and isn't OK in the family. Following them can help children learn to follow rules in other places, so it's not good to make rules too late. Good family rules are easy for children to understand.
One day, on the way home from school, my mom tells me she is going to make some new rules for me, also for my brothers and sister. Before this, we know she wants us to be good, but we really don't have any rules. Well, Mom cares about that. On Sunday she starts giving us some new rules.Clean your rooms every other day. Be ready for dinner at 7:00 p. m. That means sitting at the table with clean hands. If Mom is having a meeting in the house, be quiet. That means turning down the music and the TV. Be ready for bed at 9:30 p. m. and get up at 7:30 a. m. to prepare for school. Take out the rubbish on Monday morning before going to school. Clean the bathroom on Friday.
Following these rules isn't too hard, and sometimes it's even fun. But in other times, it can be tough. For example, if your room is really dirty and you can't finish cleaning it on that day, you have to finish it on the next day, along with something else you have to do. That isn't easy.
Mom makes these rules because she loves us a lot. She wants us to learn how to be on time, be clean and tidy and be polite. Every day, we try to follow her rules. These rules help make our family warm and happy. I feel lucky to grow up in such a family.

18、 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
①In your magazine, you wrote that many farm kids wanted to live in the city. Well, I am a farm kid, and I don't want to live in the city. In fact, I want to explain exactly why I think it's better to grow up on a farm than to grow up in the city.
②First, farm kids are too busy with farm work to get into trouble like a lot of city kids do.We usually go home right after school to work on the farm and help our parents. We have to milk the cows, feed animals, fix fences, help with watering the crops(庄稼)or any other kind of farm work. All these things keep us busy and out of trouble.
③Second, farm kids understand at an early age what's really important in life. We help our parents when animals are born, and we take care of these animals till they die. Most farm kids like me learn a lot about life and death on the farm. That gives us an understanding of human life and death that city kids don't have.
④In addition, farm kids have a much better understanding of nature than many city kids do.We work outside all year. We always get to watch the sunrise. We understand how heat or wind or snow can change our crops. We also understand how much water different crops need at different times of year. The farm kids learn many outdoor skills when they are young.
⑤Finally, farm kids have a greater sense of responsibility than most city kids. We know that crops and animals can die if we don't do our work. I learned at an early age to feed the animals on time and to water the crops regularly. Sometimes I'm tired or sick, or it's freezing cold. Even then.I know that I have to do these things because the animals, the crops, and my family depend on me.
⑥For all these reasons, I think that it is better to grow up on a farm than to grow up in the city. My own experience growing up on a family farm in Colorado tells me this. I know that growing up on a farm made me the responsible, hardworking, and thoughtful young person.
(1)、What may the underlined words"fix fences" in Paragraph 2 belong to?A、Big trouble. B、Farm work. C、School work. D、Busy study.(2)、What can we learn from Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4?A、Farm kids think animals are the most important in their life. B、City kids learn many outdoor skills when they are old enough. C、City kids can see more natural things like sunrise than farm kids. D、Farm kids usually have a better understanding of life than city kids.(3)、What is the purpose of the text?A、To introduce the ways to live on the farm and in the city. B、To help parents to have a better understanding of country life. C、To explain the reasons why it's good for kids to live on the farm. D、To invite children to learn many outdoor skills and farm knowledge.(4)、Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?A、B、

For as long as we can remember, one of the most popular ways parents use to punish their children has been the"time out".
It seems that it is a good idea: the child sits on his own to reflect(反思)on what he has done. Then, when the time is up, he will apologize and learn from the mistake.
However, just because it's something that's been done for years, that doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. In fact, very often, children don't sit nicely and think about what they' ve done.Instead, they need to be told a few (or many) times to go back to their places and stay quiet. They' re not reflecting on why they are in the"time out" at all. More likely than not, they' re probably just really angry, and'so' are the parents. In the end, both the parents and the children make each other unhappy, or even angry.
What can parents do to change this situation? You may have already heard of things like peaceful parenting(育儿)and gentle parenting. These focus on the relationship between parent and child through building trust and love. So, instead of starting a"time out", try something called"time in". A"time in" needs both parent and child to stay close until both get calm. After that, the parent, and child can discuss what happened and solve the problem together. If the child can make changes, everyone can then move on.
As we all know, punishment and violence(暴力)seldom work and will never teach the children what the right way to act is. A"time in" can be the great time for the children to learn through mistakes, Kids learn how to build their emotional and social skills through difficult situations. So, instead of punishing them for acting their age, we can use chances to teach and guide them to a place of learning.
A"time in" may take more time, but it does work.
(1)、During a"time out", a child is told to ____ .A、stay outside B、make a promise C、sit alone and reflect D、return to school(2)、In the writer's opinion,a"time out"____ .A、is becoming more popular B、doesn't always work C、should be parents' first choice D、takes too much time(3)、When a child has done something wrong, the writer suggests that ____ .A、both teachers and parents discuss how to solve the problem B、parents try something called"time in" instead of"time out" C、the child say sorry to his or her parents and learn from mistakes D、the child stay at home and reflect until he never makes mistakes(4)、Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A、Why not"time in"? B、Learn from mistakes C、"Time out" or"time in"? D、No violence at home! -
