My friend Alice visited me last week. She arrived in Hong Kong on Wednesday morning. She came from Australia. I showed her around. 

We visited the Clock Tower first. The Clock Tower was very tall. We took some photos there. Then we went to Hong Kong Science Museum. After that, we saw a good movie. 

The next day, we visited the Ladies' Market （女人街）. There were a lot of clothes shops. The clothes were cheap and beautiful. Alice bought some clothes for her parents and friends. Then we went to the Dried Seafood Street. We bought some seafood. We also had seafood in a restaurant. Both of us enjoyed the food. Then we went to a concert （音乐会） in the evening. The music was fantastic （极好的）！

On the third day, the weather was very hot, so we decided to visit Hong Kong Wetland Park. We saw many kinds of plants and animals in it. They were very interesting. Alice went back to Australia on Friday evening. She enjoyed the trip. She invited （邀请） me to visit Australia next summer. 

Every week I have a two-day holiday. So every weekend I have a good time. 

  I sometimes go to the countryside with my classmates by bus to breathe
（呼吸）the fresh air, climb the hills and enjoy the beauty of nature. Sometimes I go for 
a picnic in the open air with my friends by bike. There we draw pictures and take photos. 

Last Saturday, I went on a trip with my parents.  We sat around it, singing and dancing happily. When we felt tired, we sat together, looked at the stars and chatted（聊天）for a long time, and then went to sleep in the tent. 

One year, my family and I went on a long trip down south！ It was a three-week vacation. We lived in Michigan. So it took us a very long time to drive to Florida. We stopped in Atlanta to visit my uncle. We kept going down to Orlando. We visited Disney there！ We went to Magic Kingdom and Blizzard Beach. I really enjoyed all of the days we spent at Disney. We also went to see my dad's friend in Tampa Bay. Then we arrived in Florida. 

It was December, but we were still outside and played baseball. On the important festival, we brought some gifts with us to share_with each other, and we had some warm days. One of my favorite of the trip was New Year's Eve. New Year's Day was one of my favorite holidays. This time, we could not visit any friends. But we watched an interesting movie！ I still remember my family sat on the hotel's sofa and laughed so hard！ And I will never forget the time I spent with my family. 

Mary had a nice summer vacation last year. She went to Hawaii （夏威夷） in July. Mary likes fruits, and the Hawaiian bananas and oranges were great. The weather was very fine, but sometimes it rained heavily. On Monday she went to the museum. It was an interesting place and not very crowded （拥挤的）. On Tuesday she went to the mountains. On Wednesday she visited an old friend. They went to the movies in the evening. 

The movie was so funny that they laughed again and again. On vacation she felt like that she was a flying bird！The vacation cost （花费） her about 600 dollars, but Mary had a fun time. 

Last summer, my family and I went to England and we spent two weeks in Cornwall. It took us five hours to get there by car. We 1 in a hotel near a lake. We did a lot of different things there 2 ： we went for long walks, played games, went shopping and swam in the lake. 

I had a good time at first, but then something 3 happened（发生）. One morning, I went to the forest near the hotel by myself. I walked outside with my camera. I watched the birds and took some 4 of them. Then I got hungry and 5 to go back to the hotel. But I couldn't find the way back. I tried different ways. However, at last, I was still in the 6 place.

What a difference a day makes！My father and I  to go to Penang Hill today. We wanted to walk up to the top, but then it started raining a little so we decided to take the train. We waited over an hour  the train because there were too many people. When we got to the top, it was rainingreally  . We didn't have an umbrella  we were wet and cold. It was terrible！And because of the bad weather, we couldn't see  below. My father didn't bring  money, so we only had one bowl of rice and some fish. The food tasted great because I was so hungry！

Christmas is one of the happiest times of the year. It's time we spend with family members，giving gifts to each other and eating lots of delicious food. However，at the same time it can also be a nervous time. You have to spend much time and money planing and buying presents for everyone. You need to clean the rooms or even clear some of them out and put up the Christmas tree，the decorations and the balloons. And you have to communicate with your friends and relatives whom you perhaps wouldn't usually spend so much time with. So what can we do to deal with these things to enjoy the happy time to the fullest?

Usually，you have to face the busy shops to do your Christmas shopping during this holiday. That can make you stressed out. To stay calm(冷静的) during this holiday，you can start your shopping early. In other words，you can buy presents for people before Christmas comes so that you can save yourself some money. What's more，you can buy your presents on the Internet，which means that you can find anything you can think of，and you can do it in your living room. It's much cheaper，so you can save money. 

Did you once drink more than usual，eat cakes you didn't want or do something else which left you feeling tired? Remember that it's your right to enjoy Christmas in the way you want and that you should take no notice of those who tell you that you're not being Christmassy. 

Finally，you'd better have low expectations. If your expectations are high，you will make yourself upset. Don't let yourself be pressured into making the Christmas perfect. So，just be satisfied to have a pleasant evening with your family and let what happens happen. 

The Chongyang Festival is also called the Double Ninth Festival.  During the festival，Chongyang cake and chrysanthemum(菊花) wine are the traditional food. Climbing mountains and admiring beautiful chrysanthemums are interesting events.  It has two layers(层) with nuts and jujubes(枣) between them. Since cake in Chinese is pronounced gao meaning "high" ，people consider climbing a high mountain to be the same as eating the cake. They also hope that they can make progress in the following days after eating the cake. 

Drinking chrysanthemum wine is a necessary part of the festival. Chrysanthemums have the function(功能) of an antitoxin(抗毒素) and can drive the evil(邪恶) away. 

It is said that by climbing a high mountain，diseases can be prevented. Many well­known poems were created to describe the scene and feeling of mountain climbing. Now，families，relatives or good friends gather to climb mountains to enjoy the beautiful scenery and share happiness of the holiday with each other. 

The Tiaohua Festival is a main festival of the Miao people in Anshun City in Guizhou Province. Each year，the Tiaohua Festival attracts international tourists from all over the world. In 2008，it was included into the second batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List(第二批国家级非物质文化遗产名录). It is usually celebrated in the first lunar month every year. 

To decide the exact date of the festival，organizers have to think about many things，like lucky animal days(e. g. the tiger and dragon days are powerful，but the snake and pig days need to be avoided at all costs) and lucky numbers(e. g. "8" means rich but "4" means death). Organizers also need to make sure the date doesn't fall on the festival days of other communities. In this way，people from nearby villages can take part in the festival. 

Singing and dancing are the main activities of the Tiaohua Festival. During the festival，the Miao people wear their traditional clothes and silver accessories(配饰). The most important part of the festival is the chance for young people to meet possible marriage partners—men play a musical instrument and women dance to the music in the flower area. If a man plays well，listeners will cheer for him and he can win a woman's admiration. Then they may get married if everything goes well. Other activities include competitions of climbing a flower­decorated pole and the martial art. 

Whether we're young or old，rich or poor，we have one thing in common：The moon always looks down at each of us when it lights up the night sky. 

Just like a mirror，the moon reflects the sun's light. It can also reflect people's feelings. This is probably why the moon is always popular among Western and Chinese music，poems and other forms of literature. So when we look at the moon，what exactly do we see looking back at us?

Well，that depends on who's looking. 

The ancient Greek poet(古希腊诗人) Sappho，for example，saw the moon as a woman who lit up space with her beauty. 

Later in England，however，the moon's image(形象) was completely different. In the Middle Ages，English people often drank to get away from difficult life. In their eyes，the moon was a man who liked drinking. In London，at least three pubs(酒馆) were named Man in the Moon. It's probably because the bright moon at night looks like a man's red face after drinking. A popular song sung in the pubs at that time even went，"Our man in the moon drinks wine…"

Mother's Day is always a fun time at my house every year. This year is no exception. My brother and I want our mom to feel 1 by giving her a day off from family chores.

The Norwegian novelist，poet and playwright Jon Fosse was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature  Oct. 5，2023. 

Born in 1959 in Haugesund，Fosse grew up on a small farm in western Norway. He started writing poems and stories at the age of 12. But  was his plays that made him famous. 

Unlike many traditional  that focus on plots，characters and conflicts，Fosse's works show "tension of emotions". For example，in his first play Someone Is Going to Come，there is a man  a woman seeking solitude(独处) in a remote seaside home. 

When he was asked what he wants to give to readers through his writing，Fosse said he hopes to show a feeling of peace. "I hope they can find a kind of  from my writing，" he said. Fosse's unique style has helped him win many prizes.

In ancient China，that day was a harvest(收获) festival crops(庄稼) were harvested during that period. It was  time for relaxation and celebration. 

Families try to get together for the MidAutumn Festival in China. 

(Usual)，no matter how far away or how busy they (be)，people will try their best  (return) home for the celebration. 

The Mid­Autumn has its own special food just as other traditional Chinese (holiday). People eat mooncakes with fillings such as sugar and eggs. The round shape of the cake (make) it look like the full moon. The full moon and mooncakes stand for family reunion(团聚).
