Pandas are popular animals in China. They were once highly endangered (濒危的). 

The International Union for Conservation of Nature(世界自然保护联盟)has taken the panda off the Red List in 2016. 

China has worked for years to help pandas and it is paying off. Here are two examples. 

Bamboo is pandas' main food.  A panda needs 12-38 kilograms of bamboo each day. In the 1980s, without enough food, the number of pandas dropped(减少)to less than1, 200. To help the pandas, China set up 67 panda reserves(保护区). In these reserves, they planted bamboo forests. 

They only open their eyes six to eight weeks after birth. So researchers need to take good care of them in labs. 

The earth is getting warmer. Some places will be too hot for bamboo to grow. " More than a third of bamboo forests could go away in less than 80 years, " scientists say. It's still dangerous for pandas. 

What can we do to protect pandas?

Take a look outside, and you can find plants almost everywhere—high on the top of mountains, in the sea, in dark or sunny places. Plants have been on Earth for hundreds of millions of years and there are over 300, 000 kinds of plants. 

Plants go through a process (过程) of photosynthesis. In the sunlight, they produce sugar and O₂. Plants do it for a long time, so there is always sugar and O₂ being made. 

Plants have an important role in the world. They produce most of the world's O₂, and they are important in the food chain. Almost all living things depend on (依赖) plants to live. Animals depend on plants to get nutrients (养分) as well as O₂. Environmental factors (因素) like light, temperature and water can influence plants' growth. It's important to understand how these factors influence plants.
