As technology is developing quickly, a thing as small as a smartphone now has  (much) processing power than rockets to the moon once had. New tech brings many advantages, making our life easier and offering new chances. One great example is the drone (无人机). This pilotless flying object, which  (invent) for warfare(战事), has been used in our daily life now. Several months ago, the Chinese tech company Meituan provided a drone delivery (快递) service to the Badaling part of the Great Wall, which allows tourists (receive) food and water while hiking there. 

Drones are helping to improve and connect the lives of people in far places. In the UK, the Royal Mail sends a group of 500 drones to deliver the mail to people who live far away. Windracers, the company developing the drones, say they can fly at night for a long time. Drones could also play  part in improving the health of millions of people. In the near future, drones will be able to tell people they have a cough or a high temperature or not. 

 (recent), drone shows have been on the rise. During the National Day holiday in 2024, Shenzhen hosted a drone show. Every evening, thousands of drones flew to the sky from different directions across the city, creating  (color) pictures. People were amazed and used  (they) phones to record these moments. Some experts even say drone shows may take the place of fireworks because of less air pollution.

It seems that the sky is the limit (限制) for what drone technology can achieve. However, there are also  (problem), such as noise pollution.

Li Shizhen, a well-known medical scientist of the Ming Dynasty, is seen as a great master of medicine in China. He put all his time and heart into 1 , only to save the dying and cure the sick.

Li was born in 1518 in Hubei. Both his grandfather and father were doctors. Li's grandfather was a country doctor who travelled from place to place with a bag of herbs (药草). Such doctors were called Lingyi (bell doctors), because they could show their arrival by 2 a bell. Li's father was also a famous doctor in their 3 area. So it was easy for the people there to find the doctor. 

From childhood, Li went to the mountains with his father to 4 herbs, gaining wide knowledge about animals, plants and medicine. Although Li's father hoped his son could get a government job, Li failed the exam three times. He then turned his 5 to medicine.

At the age of 33, Li became 6 for curing Prince Zhu Houkun's son. A few years later, he was invited to work at the Imperial Medical Institute (太医院) in Beijing. During that time, he 7 many ancient medical texts, and noticed a mess in the naming and categorization (分类) of herbs. To 8 it, he decided to leave his job to write a book about herbs.

After that, Li travelled to many places and got much first-hand experience. He also read hundreds of medical books and different kinds of herbs. After 27 years of efforts, his first draft (初稿) of Ben Cao Gang Mu was 9 in 1578. The book is highly detailed and well-organized and is considered one of the greatest scientific 10 of China.

There is a special club at Beijing New Oriental Yangzhou Foreign Language School, Jiangsu. It is called the Tongcao Flowers Paper Art Workshop. Lots of them choose to join the special club and learn how to make tongcao flowers. Last month, the club just won the top prize at a school exhibition (展览).

The students and teachers worked for two months to make thousands of beautiful tongcao flowers. The flowers filled up a 24-square-meter exhibition area, covering the walls and floor.

 This paper comes from a traditional Chinese medicine called tongtuo wood. Known as "the flower that never dies", tongcao flowers can stay beautiful for many years.

Making tongcao flowers takes many steps. First, cut the tongcao paper into different sizes.  Next, put the petals together like a real flower. Finally, color the paper.

Ren Daiyang, 14, joined the workshop last year. "The tongcao paper dries fast, so I need to shape it in just 10 seconds."

"I spend more than two hours making a tongcao flower. It teaches me to be patient," said 13- year-old Zhang Shiyu." "

"Learning a language is easy. Even a child can do it!"

Most adults who are learning a second language would disagree with the above sentences. For them, learning a language is a very difficult task. They need hundreds of hours to study and practise, and that will not guarantee success for every adult language learner.

Language learning is different from other kinds of learning. Some people who are very intelligent and successful in their fields find it difficult to succeed in language learning. However, some people who are successful language learners find it difficult to succeed in other fields.

Language teachers often offer advice to language learners: Read as much as you can in the new language; practise speaking the language every day; live with people who speak the language you want to learn; don't translate—try to think in the new language; learn as a child would learn—play with the language and so on.

But what does a successful language learner do? Language learning research shows that successful language learners are similar in many ways.

First of all, successful language learners are independent learners.

Secondly, successful language learning is active learning.

Finally, successful language learners are learners with a purpose.

What kind of language learner are you? If you are a successful language learner, you have probably been learning independently, actively, and purposefully.

Drinking a cup of milk tea with friends? That's "city". Visiting the Great Wall of China? Very "city". Riding a bike down Shanghai's Anfu Road? Quite "city".

If you don't get it, let me explain it to you. The popularity of "City bu city?" has risen on the Internet these days. You can use it to describe whether someone, or something is urban (都市的) and modern or not.

"City bu city?" was first used by American blogger Paul Mike Ashton. He has lived in Shanghai with his sister for years. His name on the Internet is "Bao Bao Xiong". He likes sharing travel experiences in China on Douyin and Xiaohongshu. Ashton became popular after he shared a video of him asking his sister "City bu city?" on the Great Wall.

The word "city" itself has now taken on a new meaning as an adjective (形容词). Ashton himself says that it describes something that happens in the city, but it can also be "something that gives you a great love for life".

In recent years, a large number of foreign tourists like Ashton have been sharing their experiences of visiting China online. Topics about travelling in China are becoming more and more popular. Now people around the world can learn more about different places of modern China and Chinese way of life. And all of these are shown in a more emotional (感性的), friendly and natural way.
