Have you heard of the Torch(火把)Festival of the Yi people(彝族)in Bijie, Guizhou Province? Dancing, singing and  (欢呼), the Yi people and visitors light torches and have fun around the bonfires(篝火). The Yi people across  (西南)China celebrates the festival on 24th of lunar June every year.

The Yi people have looked up to fire for long. The early Yi people lived in high and (寒冷的)places in the mountains. For them, fire was an important way to light, warm and (烹饪)food. They even had a  (普遍的)saying: "Everything you eat must 'see' fire." For (例子), before taking animal meat home, people used to light a small fire outside the door. Then they put the meat over the fire. They do it  (严肃地). They thought fire had the  (权力，力量) to drive away the filth(污秽).

Today, the festival is more of a social event.  (在......期间) this festival, people show and spread their happiness. It gets more people to understand Yi people's life and  (传统). It attracts(吸引) visitors from all over the world.

Yesterday I was at home. I video games in my room when I heard people screaming. I went out and saw my house on fire! The firefighters arrived in 10 minutes. They fought against the fire for one hour until they made it. One of them even rushed into the house the dog out of the fire. brave they are!

Mr Kent's students cared about a hurricane(飓风)in Mexico. The wind blew trees over and damaged houses. In the heavy1 , houses and streets were flooded. The class discussed what they could2 to help people there.

One day, my new friend came to visit. "Don't you go out to play?" he asked. "No!" I answered as quickly as I could. He rolled his eyes and fixed them on the football on my study table. "Whose is that?" he asked excitedly. "Mine,"I said. He reached for it. He took off the paper and bounced the ball all over the place. "Come on, let's go. We'll play outside with this!" I nodded. It was my ball so I followed him! I left my book on the bed.

I had no idea what I had to do, standing in the middle of the field. I just stood there, looking at my new friend as he played happily with my ball. He kicked the ball to me. I didn't know what to do. I picked up the ball and ran with it. "Kick it at me!" he screamed from across the field. So I placed the ball near my feet and kicked it as hard as I could. It was a bad kick and the ball hit the girl standing in front of me. How embarrassing! Luckily it didn't hurt her!

Soon, other kids joined us. Everyone quickly got into two teams. I didn't know the rules then, but watched others and ran just to keep up in the game. I quickly learnt. I didn't kick a goal, but that didn't matter.

To my surprise, I enjoyed the experience— even the sweat and the mud. Afterwards, I dribbled (颠)the ball all the way home. When Mum saw me, she could hardly speak. Then she smiled and said,"Take off those shoes here, mister. I don't want mud in my house!"I ran inside, hopping(双脚跳) all the way to the bathroom.

People have told stories about Robin Hood for more than 700 years. Nobody knows if he was a real person or an invented character. In the legends(传说), Robin was quite smart and had a playful sense of humour. He loved playing jokes and tricks on people. The stories say that Robin Hood was a skilled archer(弓箭手)and he always carried a bow and arrow.

He wore green clothes and a hat with a green feather. He lived in Sherwood Forest with a group of outlaws(逃犯), known as his "Happy Men". The group included Friar Tuck, Little John, who was unusually tall, and Robin's true love, Maid Marian.

Sherwood Forest was a royal(皇家的)hunting forest in county of Nottinghamshire in England. Most people thought that forests were dangerous places to go. People travelling through the forests were often robbed by outlaws.

The stories say that Robin Hood only took money from rich people so that he could give it to people who needed it. So he became famous for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor".

The Sheriff(郡长)of Nottinghamshire was Robin's arch-enemy. It was the sheriff's job to keep the woods safe and to make sure that nobody stole the king's deer. The Sheriff of Nottinghamshire tried to catch Robin Hood, but never succeeded.

Centuries ago, people loved to tell each other stories of Robin Hood. Later he became a famous character in books, and nowadays Robin is still a well-loved hero in books, theatre, TV and films.

⑥Alert(警觉的): The dog is alert for some reason. If you are training it and its ears raise up, it means the dog is paying attention to you and waiting for your orders.

⑦Dogs like being with people, so they try to get your attention. Dogs also know your body language. If you learn a dog's body language, you'll improve the relationship with the dog.
