Dingjun Mountain

Dingjun Mountain is a 1905 Chinese film. The film came from the Peking opera of the same name. The famous actor Tan Xinpei played the main character Huang Zhong in the film. Although the film is only about 30 minutes long and doesn't have sound, it has an important place in the history of China's film industry (行业). It is the first Chinese film and is a symbol of the start of the industry. 

The Spring Festival Gala (春节联欢晚会)

The Spring Festival is the most important traditional (传统的) Chinese festival. And watching the Spring Festival Gala on Chinese New Year's Eve (除夕夜)is an important activity for Chinese people. On the show, we can see many excellent performers give performances like comedy acts, songs, and dances. 

The tradition of watching the Spring Festival Gala started in 1983. After 40 years the show still makes Chinese people happy. On Chinese New Year's Eve, 60 相当多的人花四个小时的时间观看它。

Our school has a beautiful place. All students like togo there. It's  small field (田地) in the northeast corner (东北角) of our campus (校园).  (we) teacher always lets us work there to grow some vegetables. 

Every class has some  (group). Each group has its job. Group A waters the vegetables. Group B makes records (记录). Group C cleans the field. . . Last year, we (grow) four different kinds of vegetables—tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and Chinese cabbages.

Every summer, drowning (溺水) accidents happen among students from to time  For this, many schools have swimming lessons. Swimming is both a useful life skill and a great sport. Like any physical activity, swimming also has risks, so it's important to make sure that you do it safely. Here are somethings you should know. 

Don't swim alone（独自）. No matter how old you are, swimming alone is a bad idea.  You may fall, get hit or have other unexpected accidents. So always have someone with you. They can help you or call for help for you if anything happens. 

Swim only when you feel comfortable. For example, don't swim if you have an open wound(伤口). And if you still don't feel better, get out of the pool. 

Follow the pool rules and signs. So look for and read the pool safety information carefully before getting into the water. And don't jump into any water unless you knowhow deep it is. 

Be patient. They are there to protect (保护) you. Start by swimming once or twice a week, and don't expect to break any speed or distance (距离) records in a short time. Maybe in the beginning you can only make it halfway across the pool before you need to take a break, and that's okay. As you practice more, you'll be able to swim for longer each time. 

One day, I went to the store to pick up the next week's food. I had something important to do so I had little time and Ihad to put off shopping for Christmas presents until later in the month. 

When we arrived there, I gave my son a dollar and asked him to give it to a poor man at the door of the store. We  went  in  and  soon  filled  our  cart(购物车)  with  food. Then we walked towards the self-checkout machines(自主结账收款机). I hated using them. I preferred to chat with the friendly cashiers(收银员), but there were too many people waiting there. As I stopped and waited, though, I heard  a  man  at  the  machine  next  to  mine  saying  something  angrily. Every time he put his old, wrinkled(起皱褶的) twenty-dollar bill into the machine, it spit out  （吐出）the bill. I quickly took a newer twenty-dollar bill out of my wallet and gave it to him. He thanked me with a warm smile and paid for his goods. I told him to keep his money but he insisted(坚持) that I should take his old, wrinkled twenty-dollar bill. I agreed, put it in my coat pocket, and wished him a Merry Christmas. 

After checking out, I remembered the saying, "Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you. " I reached into my pocket, smiled, and went outside. Then I gave that wrinkled twenty-dollar bill to another poor person and walked to my car happily. 

In my opinion, we should change the world with our love. It is easier than it looks, too. Just start with the person nearest you. 

Wang Xiaojun, 49, has a small hotel in Pingyao, a county in Shanxi. She opened it in 2002. This January, Wang got an email from her friend Bernard Frigara in France. "I just want to tell you how much I miss Pingyao, you and your family. I love to walk around Pingyao and ride a bicycle there. . . " the 75-year-old artist wrote in the e-mail. 

When Frigara first visited Pingyao in 2004, he stayed in Wang's hotel. In less than 20 years, Frigara went to Pingyao six times, and he stayed in Wang's hotel everytime, for one or two months at a time. 

Wang and her family showed Frigara around Pingyao, washed clothes for him and celebrated(庆祝) his birthday. Once when Frigara didn't feel well, Wang took him to hospital. He wrote in his diary that he stayed in a wonderful hotel and that he felt at home there. In    return, Frigara taught Wang French and bought gifts for her children. Wang described her French friend as a kind and helpful man. 

Not long ago, Wang wrote a story between Frigara and her family named Wafting for you, my friend. "He will come to Pingyao again in the spring of 2024, " she said.

You may have heard "59. All roads lead to Rome", but you may not know that the world's first "highway" is in China. It is the "Qin Zhi Dao", or the "Qin Highway". The highway has a history of more than 2,000 years.

The Qin Highway starts in Chunhua County(淳化县) of Shaanxi Province and ends in Baotou（包头）of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. 60. 它大约长750公里。 We can learn from the Shiji (Records of the Grand Historian) by Sima Qian that Qin Shi Huang ordered Meng Tian to build this highway. Meng brought together about 300,000 people to work on it. However, the work only lasted about two years when Qin Shi Huang died suddenly in 210 BC.

There is no record to say why the Qin people built the highway. Some experts say the highway might be a military(军事的) highway. It connected Qin's center with the Great Wall in the north. If there was an emergency in the north, the military could reach there in three days and nights.

Although the Qin Highway was not used for long in the Qin Dynasty, it made a big difference in the late dynasties. For example, it helped Zhang Qian in the Han Dynasty(朝代) to send information about other states to the Han. It also played a big role in improving cultural and economic exchanges between people.
