Bobi was a dog from Portugal(葡萄牙).When he and his three brothers were born in the family's woodshed(柴房)，Costa's father decided to (扔) the four little baby dogs away since they already had too many animals at home. Costa, the 8-year-old boy, was really sad. However, a few days later, he surprisingly found Bobi （活着）. Costa jumped up and down with joy when he had Bobi back.

Life is full of surprises that sometimes change one's everyday life. They may influence your mind, feelings, and behaviour.

Some of the surprises might be good and some of them might not be so enjoyable. However, you need to understand that unexpected events (出人意料的事件) are part of life. When you accept this fact, you will deal with them more easily. . Sometimes, you think an event may cause problems, but in the end, it might make a good result. For example, even getting out of work could get a good result. That means you might find a better job.

Before getting angry or afraid, give the situation a careful thought. . So, instead of feeling bad, you'd better think about ways to get used to the new situation. If you can't, you'd better do something to make an improvement on it. This is more useful.

In other words, don't waste time to think about the past. Just go ahead to make the most of the present moment.

What will you do if you meet unexpected events? 

Plunk! I dropped another pecan(山核桃) into my basket. Then a gentle autumn wind blew some more off the tree. I ran to pick them up. Whew! Pecan picking was hard. My basket was only half full.

I was visiting my grandpa's farm in Kansas, and Grandpa sent me into the woods to pick up pecans for us to enjoy later. I wasn't about to let him down.

Then something caught my eye: a squirrel picked up a pecan, climbed up a tree and disappeared into a large hole. A moment later, the squirrel climbed down to the ground to pick up another pecan. Once again, the squirrel took the pecan back to his secret hiding place inside the hollow(洞) of the tree.

Not so secret any more, I thought. I ran over to the tree and found the hollow was filled with sweet pecans. They were right there for the taking. This was my chance. Handful by handful, I took all the pecans from the hollow. Now the basket was full!

I was so proud of myself. I couldn't wait to show Grandpa all of the pecans I'd collected.

"Look, Grandpa," I shouted, "look at all of the pecans I found!" Grandpa took a look at my basket. "Well, well, how did you find so many, Jimmy?" 1 told him how I'd followed the squirrel and taken the pecans from his hiding place. Grandpa congratulated me on finding out something about the squirrel's secrets. Then he did something that surprised me. He handed the basket back to me and put his arm gently around my shoulders.

"That squirrel worked very hard to collect his winter food," he said, "Now that all of his pecans are gone, don't you think that little squirrel will be very hungry when it gets cold?"

"I didn't think about that." I said.

"I know," Grandpa said, "But a good man should never take advantage of someone else's hard work, even the squirrel's."

Suddenly I felt as hollow as that old tree. The image(形象) of that hungry squirrel wouldn't leave my mind.

There was only one thing I could do.

①It can be really embarrassing if someone sees you talking to yourself. But don't feel bad about it! Talking to yourself actually has a lot of advantages.

②You probably know that thinking is good for the brain. It helps us do things like making plans and managing our feelings. Talking to yourself loud is like showing this quiet inner(内在的) speech. It can help us do better in different areas like studies, sports and work.

④When encouragement comes from oneself, it adds to self-confidence. A study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches. Researchers divided the players into two groups: one group that said nothing while playing, and the other that talked to themselves while playing. They found that the self-talkers showed more confidence and played better than those in the silent group.

⑤Self-talk also helps to improve memory. Researchers tested four different ways to memorize things: read silently, reading aloud, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of oneself reading. "Those who read out loud record the information best," Researchers said in their study. It's because the information will probably become a long-term memory if it is said out loud.

Marketing tents as single-use（一次性的）should be stopped, festival organisers（组织者) say, as people continue to try to cut down on plastic at festivals.

Single-use festival tents should not be used, to help avoid almost 900 tons of plastic waste each year, festival organisers have said.

A group of more than 60 festivals across the UK have pushed supermarkets such as Argos and Tesco to stop marketing and selling single-use tents. Festival-goers are also encouraged to take their tents home at the end of the festival.

About 250,000 tents are left at music festivals across the UK each year. Many are not collected and end up as waste.

The action to stop the tents ending up as waste starts with the Association of Independent Festivals(AIF). AIF's 10-year report found 10% of people attending its festivals had left a tent behind during that year's festival season. This works out as about 875 tons of plastic waste, which is the weight of 240 elephants.

In 2018, the first year of a promise to cut down on plastic, festivals reported some important changes: 40% of those who had signed the promise stopped the sale of drinks in single-use plastic cups, 67% sold reusable drinks bottles, and 87% encouraged the use of reusable bottles.

AIF CEO Paul Reed said, "The message here is not to buy a more expensive tent. Festival-goers can take their tent home and reuse it, making sure that it doesn't become a single-use tent this summer."
