 Throughout her life, Mckenna Reitz was known for her long, thick brown hair. The 33-year-old mom's hair1 falling out after the birth of her second daughter. She went to many hospitals, but 2 could stop her hair falling. By December of 2015, she had no hair and was told that she had alopecia(秃头症).

A Special Day

 One day when I was seven years old, I went to a park with my parents and sisters. We played on the grass and sat on the see-saw(跷跷板). It was a wonderful day. 

 Now, as a parent, I often think of how my words and actions might influence my children. Something ordinary might just become a special memory for them. 

 Last year, when my son turned four, we had a special day. In the morning, we drove to the train station and bought two tickets. We stood on the platform, enjoyed the sunshine and watched the trains come and go. Soon afterwards, we caught our train. We took two window seats and watched houses, bikers and cars whiz by(呼啸而过). 

 After getting off the train, we walked to a restaurant. We sat, looked through the menu and asked each other what we would like to eat. We waited patiently for our food and tried everything we had ordered. The foods were all our favorite. 

 Then, we walked around the city center. We visited a toy shop and ended up buying a train. After all, it was the little man's birthday. We also enjoyed some hot chocolate at a coffee shop. Finally, we made our way back to the train station and returned home. 

 Every so often, my son will look at me with dreamy eyes and ask, "Mama, when can we have a special day again?"

 Sometimes, we go to a park; sometimes, we try out a new restaurant. We don't do this too often, or it won't be special. But we don't do it too rarely, either, or we might forget how much we both love having them. 

 An international team of scientists says it has discovered two new"super-Earth" type planets about 100 light-years away, one of which may be suitable for life. 

 Unlike any of the planets in our solar system, the nearly 1, 600 known super-Earths are larger than Earth, but lighter than icy planets like Uranus and Neptune. 

 Researchers at Belgium's University of Liège said that they found another one while using Earth-based telescopes to check the existence(存在) of a different planet first discovered by a NASA satellite in the same solar system. 

NASA's satellite found planet LP 890-9b, which is about 30% larger than Earth and orbits its sun in just 2. 7 days. ULi ège researchers used their telescopes in Spain to take a closer look at the planet. That's when the stargazers(天文学家) discovered another planet, LP890-9c, which is 40% larger than Earth and takes 8. 5 days to orbit its sun. 

 Francisco Pozuelos, a researcher, said that the planet could be suitable to life though being a 3. 7 million miles from its sun. Earth, by comparison, is located over 93 million miles away from our sun. "Although this planet orbits very close to its star, at a distance about 10 times shorter than that of Mercury around our Sun, the amount of stellar irradiation(照射) it receives is still low, and could allow the presence of liquid water on the planet's surface, if it has enough air, " Pozuelos said. "This is because the star LP 890-9 is about 6. 5 times smaller than the Sun and has a surface temperature half that of our star. "

 Good sleep is really important to our health. But global heating is leading to increases in night-time temperatures that are happening faster than they are during the day. This makes it harder for us to get quality sleep. As global temperature increases, the average global citizen is already losing 44 hours of sleep every year, a recent study revealed. 

 The study used sleep and outdoor weather data collected from 2017 to 2022. It found that higher temperatures reduced sleep by putting off its onset. People's bodies need to cool every night as they fall asleep, but this is harder to do when it is warmer. 

"Some groups, however, will be affected much more than others. " said Kelton Minor,  a researcher from the University of Copenhagen. The sleep loss per degree of warming is about a quarter higher for women than men, twice as high for those over 65 years old, and three times higher for those in less wealthy nations. 

"Women usually have higher levels of fat than men, which may make the cooling time longer. Older people are known to sleep less at night and have poorer body temperature regulation(调节). People in poorer nations could lose more sleep, as it's harder for them to get cooling machines. " he explained. 

 The studies have also shown that rising temperatures hurt health, including increasing the possibilities of heart diseases, mental health problems, accidents and injuries. They have also been found to reduce one' s ability to work and study. Poor sleep has also been shown to have these effects. However, disturbed sleep may be a key reason why researchers are seeing these heat related health problems. 

 Worryingly, there were no signs of people being able to adapt to hotter nights. The growing numbers of people in many countries around the world are simply not getting enough sleep. 

 Born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, in1868, Cai Yuanpei had a thirst for knowledge from a young age. He  (接受)a classical education and traveled to Beijing at age 25, where he placed 37th in the country in the imperial examinations and got the high level jinshi  (学位) in 1892. Then he went to the Hanlin Academy. 

 By the turn of the  (第二十) century, the Qing dynasty was in a mess. Cai was(不满意) with Qing rule. He decided to study German and dreamed of continuing his education in  (欧洲). 

 In 1907, his dream of studying came true. He learned some good teaching  (方法). In1911, Cai returned to China, look forward to taking part in the building of a new nation. 

 Cai returned to Peking university  (后来) in 1919 as a headmaster. Cai 33(传播) the values of free thinking in his class and was loved by his students. This great edu cator  (死亡) in Hong Kong in 1940 at the age of 72. But his  (承诺) to open discussion and effort in improve the level of education left a lasting mark on the period. He is thought as a hero to this day. 

 When Mancina was young, he would skateboard during the winter seasons. At the beginning, he knew nothing  skateboarding and couldn't play it so well. It wasn't until he moved to a different neighbourhood and met a group of  ( skate) that Mancina began to truly love skating. 

 However, at just thirteen years old, doctors told Mancina that he had an eye problem.  just a year and a half, he lost vision in his left eye. Mancina stopped skateboarding. After a few years, he picked up the board again and  ( film) a video of himself skateboarding with the help of a cane(杖). The video  ( share) online. It made Mancina decide to return to the sport although he is now  ( complete) blind. 

"Being a blind skater, I have to take my time to feel obstacles(障碍物) and have a good understanding of  ( it) before I start skating, " said Mancina. "I depend on my white cane the most. I use it to know my environment and to find obstacles while skating. "

Mancina hopes to perform at the Paralympics in 2028. His future plans include breaking his own record and building a skate park. Once it's built, he  ( introduce) blind kids to the world of skating. 

 In recent years, Chinese online novels have become popular at home and abroad.  Sixteen works have now found their place on the bookshelves of the British Library. The British Library is one of the world's largest libraries. It chooses books based on their cultural value and their popularity among readers. This is the first time that Chinese online novels have entered the collection of the British Library. The 16 books cover a variety of topics. They're considered as some of the best Chinese online novels from the past 20 years. 

 His work Great Power, Heavy Industry is among the 16 novels that were added to the British Library. The novel tells the story of how China's manufacturing industry(制造业) has been able to grow so strong since the 1980s. "This may help foreign readers get to know China better, " Qicheng said. 

"Many may think that all online novels are fast-food love stories, " one of them said. "It's time for their value to be recognized. Perhaps in a few years, we'll have some foreign fans who have grown up reading Chinese novels. "

 In 2021, nearly half of foreign readers said that they were willing to pay for Chinese works. There are, however, still challenges ahead. The greatest one is in the area of translation. There have been more English books translated into Chinese than the other way around. Making Chinese books available is only a first step. Good translations will be the key to the future of Chinese online novels.
